A suspected Waterbury heroin dealer was arrested in an undercover Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives sting in a deal of heroin for guns, arrest records show. Patrick Rogers arrived Friday at a shopping plaza in Waterbury with his end of the deal — the heroin — court records show. Rogers was meeting a man he had sold heroin to in the past — an undercover agent with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. They made the trade and the agent sent the signal, bringing in authorities to arrest Rogers. Rogers was charged Friday with unlawful possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, according to federal court records. He remains held without bail. The weekslong investigation started with an informant telling the ATF agent that he knew a heroin dealer who was looking to trade drugs for guns, according to a criminal complaint against Rogers. In late August, the informant and the agent, working undercover, met with Rogers in Waterbury. They bought 20 bags of heroin and opened the lines of communication between the undercover agent and the heroin dealer, the criminal complaint reads.
